Dielectric tensor for magneto-optic NiMnSb

The diagonal component ␧ xx and off-diagonal component ␧ xy of the complex dielectric tensor for the ferromagnetic compound NiMnSb are determined using ex situ spectroscopic ellipsometry and magneto-optic analysis over the spectral range from 0.7 to 6.2 eV. The effects of the overcoat on the raw data are removed by the analysis. First, the complex ␧ xx of thin-film NiMnSb were determined by ex ...

I Magneto - optic recording

With the continued advance in the design and production of small solid state lasers and associated optics, future systems designed to achieve very-high-density storage of digital information are likely to become increasingly dependent on sophisticated optical technology. Non-erasable storage systems that have been accepted for many years (WORM, CD-ROM and so on) show a continuous growth of appl...

Magneto-optic parametric oscillation.

We develop a model of large-signal steady-state magneto-optic parametric oscillation in the Faraday configuration of a singly resonant cavity. The conversion efficiency and the threshold and phase-matching conditions are discussed, and we show that tunable phase matching can be achieved by use of a static magnetic field, eliminating any walk-off effects.

Magneto-optic trapping of 210Fr.

The alkali element francium has no stable isotopes and has eluded extensive study because sufficient quantities have not been available for detailed investigations. More than 1000 210Fr atoms have now been contained in a magneto-optic trap. This number is sufficient to allow extensive studies of Fr atomic properties that are necessary input for future tests of fundamental interactions. [S0031-9...

Enhancement of magneto-optic images

Magneto-optic (MO) imaging produces images of magnetic flux leakage from surface and sub-surface defects. The presence of domain boundaries in the MO sensor produces a characteristic artefact in the images that renders detection of cracks difficult. This paper presents two different approaches for the removal of domain boundaries in MO images. The first approach uses static methods that rely on...
